Obituary of Alan R. Cephas, Sr.

Alan Ronald Cephas, Sr. son of James Edward and Sarah Cephas went home on Monday November, 2, 2020 at Christiana Care-Wilmington Division. Alan was born March 22, 1933. He was a native of Wilmington, Delaware and attended Howard High School. Alan joined the Air Force after graduation and enlisted in the Army after his tour with the Air Force was over. Alan was an avid and lifetime bowler, and coordinated many events especially the Lilac tournament in Rochester, NY. Alan worked as a laborer in local 199 before becoming an Ironworker for local 451. He retired as an Ironworker in 1994. Alan was a member of the Monday Club, The TNBA, USBC and American Legion. Alan was of generous spirit and was always willing to help anyone in need. He also had a zest for life and will be remember for his quick wit and teasing nature. Alan is survived by his wife of 63 years Catherine L. Jones Cephas, his daughter Nina D. Cephas, son Alan R. Cephas II, granddaughters Trinity and Shayla Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and most loved in-laws. He was adoptive father to many who called him Pop. Alan was a member of Bethel AME Church , 6th and Walnut Street in Wilmington, DE. Life Celebration service will be streamed on Monday at 11am.
