William Ragin, Jr.

Obituary of William Henry Ragin, Jr.

William Henry Ragin, Jr. was born to William Henry Ragin, Sr. and Mary Magdalene Nathaniel Ragin on January 28, 1944 in Jamaica, New York. William was the forth born of six children.  As a young man he met and married Joan McKenzie who bore four children as the fruit of this union.

William spent most of his childhood years in the Bronx, New York where he graduated from James Monroe High School.  As an adult, he spent most of his working life as a dedicated Utilities Engineer at Consolidated Edison in New York.

Although William was pretty much be a loner, when he joined the company of others, he brought real joy and tears of laughter with his one-liners such as “what’s going on” and “she’s confusius.”  Some of his pleasures were fishing and riding his bike along the Henry Hudson right across from where he lived for so many years by himself as a widower in Manhattan.

William was a good father, brother, uncle and friend. For all that knew him, he had a very kind heart.  For so many years he served as the patriarch of his very large extended -family, He is now the missing link.

With God’s will, he  passed away on June 8, 2018 leaving behind two daughters, Tracy Ragin and Kim Ragin, two sons, William Henry Ragin, III and Jammal Ragin, one sister, Lorraine Ragin, eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, more than twenty-one nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews  and a host of relatives and friends.
