Obituary of Dr. James Woodrow Davis

Age 70 of New Castle, DE died Friday, October 10, 2003 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. The Rev. Dr. James W. Davis, Sr. was born to the late Mary A. Davis and the late James H. Mitchell on January 29, 1933 in Winston-Salem, NC, Rev. Davis was a pastor, educator, accomplished musician, recording artist and community leader. Rev. Davis graduated from Winston-Salem State University, Howard University School of Divinity and has a Doctorate of Theology from Jamison Bible Institute. Rev. Davis pastored at Brandywine Trinity United Methodist Church and Buttonwood United Methodist Church. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church. He retired from Red Clay School District as a Student Relations Advisor. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi, Ministerial Alliance of Wilmington, DE and the NAACP. Rev. Davis is survived by 1 son, Dont'e Davis; 1 daughter, Verisia V. Davis West and her husband, Gregory; 2 grandchildren, Philip J. West and Shedrick Samuels. Rev. Davis is preceded in death by a son James W. Davis, Jr. He is also survived by a host of other family and friends. Read Rev.
