Age 83 of Wilmington, DE went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at his residence. Daniel Wash Mitchell was born April 5, 1920 in Colerain, NC to the late Raleigh Mitchell and Cora Mitchell. He attended Thomas D. Clayton School. Daniel was formerly affiliated with the Bethel AME Church in Smyrna. He had worked at Marble Iron, Dravo and retired from Wilmington General Hospital. He was known around the city of Wilmington and his place of preference was Rodney Square and by Knotty Pine. He was a member of the Quaker Hill Tenant Council. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He leaves to cherish his memory 1 son, Daniel E. Mitchell; 3 daughters, Rev. Emma E. Mitchell- Corbin(Roger), Betty A. Mitchell and Diana L.Mitchell; his lifelong companion Elmira Mitchell Caldwell; and the Mitchell Clan known throughout the Townsend/Smyrna area, George(Louvinia), Walter(Betty), Sara Jane Shockley, Oscar(Doris), Elizabeth "Liz", Dr. Beulah M., Joan Mitchell(James Lewis), Eugene Mitchell(Adrienne), and Barbara Mitchell-Williams(Henry B.); 1 uncle, Philip Webb of NC; 17 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
