Obituary of Jean Lucille Wise Spencer
On October 16, 2007 Jean Lucille Wise Spencer, affectionately known as Sister Jean went home to be with the Lord. Jean was born in Wilmington, DE on July 7, 1932 to Mary Wise and Harmon Carey, Sr. She was raised in Southbridge by foster parents Mamie and Preston Baylor. Jean received her education in the Wilmington Public Schools and at the age 16, was joined in holy matrimoney to George R. Spencer, III. From this union were born 3 children; Sandra, Donald and Larry. At age 40, she gave birth to her baby girl, Nicole Stanford. Jean became a member of Mt. Joy at an early age and joined the usher board. While in service as an usher, she started the first Family and friends day. She went on to join the church of the Living Word under Pastor Eddie Johnson where she attended the Bible Institute and obtained a degree in Biblical Studies. Jean really loved the Lord and served faithfully in ministry. Some of her favorites were Ride and Share of DE, the brown bag, and the Prison Ministry which she served on for many years. Even as her health began to fail, she would continue to witness and make calls to other seniors on their birthdays. She was preceded in death by her husband George R. Spencer, III, son Donald Spencer, mother Mary Wise and foster parents Mamie and Preston Baylor. She leaves to cherish her memories 2 daughters, Sandra Cannon and Nicole Stanford; one son, Larry Spencer, Sr.; 3 sister-in-laws;3 brothers-in-laws; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; one god-daughter, Robin Bini, foster children in the ministry, Keith Robinson; Candy King; Carmella Harris; a devoted friend, Vanessa White; and a host nieces, nephews and friends.
