Obituary of Derek Cornel Henry
Derek Cornel Henry, Sr. was born March 30, 1957 in Wilmington, DE and departed this life July 19, 2005. He was united in holy matrimony March 30, 1980 to his beloved wife, Deborah Ann Harrington. Derek believed in Christ and had accepted the Lord into his life before his passing. Derek was educated in the public school system in Smyrna, DE, where he was an outstanding athlete, who excelled in track and basketball. Derek proudly served his country as a part of the Delaware Army Reserves. In addition to serving his country, he dedicated 10 years of diligent service at the Delaware Psychiatric Center, provided food to shut-ins and the elderly through Meals on Wheels, and coached in some of Smyrna and Wilmington's athletic programs. Derek also became a master automotive technician for Sears Roebuck and Company, where he groomed trainees, outworked his co-workers, and set constant examples of hustle, consistency and integrity for those around him for 19 years. Derek was the eldest of 11 children born to Frank and Grace Henry. He was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Henry-Ford. Derek leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Deborah A. Henry; 5 children, Raylin Barrineau, Rhonda Frazier, Sheila Newell, Dereka Henry, Derek Henry Jr.; and his parents, Frank D. Henry, Jr. and Grace Williams Henry. Other survivors include 9 brothers and sisters, Frank III, David, Roger, Dwayne, Duncan, Joyce, Diana, Don and Daniel Henry; and 7 grandchildren, Deshawn Harrington, Jarrin Newel, Kanan Frazier, Jasmine Newell, D'Keir and Kyasia Barrineau and Derek III.
