To the family of Lonnie Pinkston...There are people we meet everyday in life and a handful of these people leave a lasting mark. Lonnie Pinkston has left a mark in my life. I was blessed with the opportunity to meet Lonnie a few years back. I was one of his mentors and had the opportunity to work with Lonnie at a school he attended. His smile will be everlasting in my heart along with my memories of Lonnie. I am sure this is the case with all the lives he touched. He was such a smart and intelligent child. He always had a story for me and I will never forget his stories he would tell me about trains and his grandfather. He always did tell me he was related the Eagles player which has the last name Pinkston...I never did find out if he was joking with me. I remember one day he had his nephew or niece with him at school...and I will never forget him holding this child up next to his face and how proud and happy he was to be an Uncle. I remember trips picking Lonnie up for school. It seems like yesterday. He loved the earth and the outdoors. He loved each of you...his family. It is so hard to understand why someone would hurt such a loving kid who wanted so much. It is hard to understand why someone would have so much hate and evil in them to hurt a child. He was taken before his time and I never had the opportunity to tell him how proud I was of him. So now I tell you...his family. Things in life sometimes come easy for some but Lonnie always had to work twice as hard and he never gave up. His dreams and his future may have been taken from him from this senseless act but his happy spirit and his memory will not be taken. He is in a safe place now and I believe he will watch over all of his family. Things in life happpen for a reason and I believe God will have some good come from this. If there is anything..anything at all I can do to help please let me know. I know I was his mentor but he has left this earth being my mentor and my role model. Through my prayers God will help me understand why something like this could happen to a child but please stay strong for Lonnie. I pray for each of you for your loss and the times ahead. I am deeply saddened but I believe Lonnie will be okay and that he is safe now. Each train I hear I will think of Lonnie and his unselfish spirit.

To the Pinkston Family,
I don't know if you will remember me but I taught Lonnie in first and second grade at Lancashire Elementary School. I was very sorry to hear of his untimely passing, especially when he had done so well and me proud to say that I had been one of the many teachers who cared so much about him. I can remember some of the behaviors he used to have and give him and you, his family, a lot of credit by encouraging him to continue his education, graduate from high school, and look foward to a career.
With my deepest sympathy,
Mrs. Sue DiCristofaro

Dear Pinkston family,
We remember your family from your Lancashire days. I (Peggy) was Chauncey's, LaQuinta's, and (for a short time) Lonnie's art teacher. I also remember Shanna and your younger daughter from your family's involvement in the F.A.S.T. program at Lancashire. My husband, Marty, was involved in F.A.S.T. on many levels. Your children may remember him as one of the adults who played games with the children while parents were attending programs. We remember what a strong, close family you were then, and undoubtedly are still today. Our hearts ache for you in the loss of Lonnie. Losing a child is the worst thing I can imagine. Mrs. Pinkston and Mr. Pinkston, you can be proud of the fine family you created. You are all in our prayers.

I first met Lonnie in the spring at 303 w.38th st how impressed I was with this young man who asked me for a job cutting grass and helping me repair that stinky house with all those overgrown trees. He was a little guy then so i gave him a little work to do I did not want Lonnie to hurt himself when I was not there.I left that house that day and returned the next day and to my surprise he made that house so clean on the outside I could not beleave it.Lonnie was so proud of his Granddad and his grandmom he spoke of them a lot. the next time I saw him he had grown 6inches. what a nice young man and what a lose. I am in shock at his passing, but if we beleave in the Lord he is in a better place waiting for us all to join him, and someday we will see his smiling face again when our time comes if I can do anything for you please ask.Lonnie's passing is just one of many questions that I need the lord to answer My thoughts and prayers are with you all

I learned of the passing of your loved one in a phone call from Lonnie, whom I know from work at the State Chamber.
I am very sorry to hear of this young man's passing. I know from the phone message I received how much he was loved.
In times like this when we are so distressed and feel such a deep and painful loss, the psalms remind us to continue to hope in God.
Psalm 42, verse 11, asks, "Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God.
My prayers and those of my family are with you at this difficult time.
