Obituary
Obituary of Lorraine Jarman
Our Lord and Savior, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, sent his ministering angels to call our beloved Lorraine Jarman to eternal rest on September 2, 2014, after 84 years of dedicated service to family, faith, and friends. Lorraine was a warm, beautiful, soldier in His army who faithfully demonstrated agape love. Her encouraging, family-centered spirit will be long remembered. Lorraine was born in Delmar, Maryland on December 19, 1929 to the late Evelyn Elizabeth and Monroe Franklin West. She completed her early education in the Wicomico County Public School System. After marrying the late Reverend Oliver Jarman in 1974, she became the first lady of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in North East, Maryland where she served for many years until his retirement. Her Christian witness was evident when she ministered as a worship leader and Rev. Jarman played the guitar. For many years the Jarman's walked the four miles at Battery Park and in their neighborhood where they spread joy and kindness to those they met. Lorraine's passion was gardening and she loved to watch things grow. She could put a twig in the ground and produce a beautiful plant. The greatest joy of her life was spending time with her family where she was the matriarch. She was known for hugging and kissing everyone she came in contact with and was affectionately known as the "Kissing Bandit". Her family called her vivacious, fun-loving, and one who lived life to its fullest. The Rock of Ages and Mt. Carmel congregations remember her as a faithful member of the Sunday School, Praise and Worship Team, Senior Choir, Ministers Wives and Daughters, and the Intercessory Prayer Ministry. Left to cherish her memory are: her children, George Gale (Carolyn), Wilmington, DE; the late Phillip E. West, Wilmington, DE; Brenda Jackson, Wilmington, DE; Shadeed Rashada (late Margaret), Wilmington, DE; and Sheila Hyman (Fred), Lancaster, PA; her siblings, Reba Jackson, Chester, PA; Reverend Franklin West (Marylene), Rayford, NC; Ardella Hearne, Seaford, DE; Elsie Lucas, Newark, DE; Edith Harris (Charles), Delmar, MD; preceded in death by Marie Powell, Chester, PA and Robert West (Betty), Matthews, NC; her grandchildren, Charlotte Blango, Shalin Carter, Carl West, Yana Carter, Sonja Dixon (Andrew), Omar Rashada, Bayyinah Cunningham, Corey Ferrell, Barbara Austin, Marcia Taylor, April Taylor, Timothy Taylor (Angela); and a host of great-grand children, great-great grand children, nieces, nephews, and cousins. During her life, Lorraine was blessed with a devoted cousin Phyllis McNeil; two godchildren, Jamie Thompson and Timothy Taylor; several devoted friends: Minnie Smith, Valerie Prattis, Janet Watson, Marie Winchester, the late Evangelist Delia McNair, and her good neighbor Dan.
