Obituary of Dorothy A. Norris
After a life of love and family commitment, God enfolded Dorothy A. Norris in his arms to rest eternally on August 14, 2014. Dorothy was the third of five children born to Russell and Ernestine Anderson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was raised by her Aunt, Essie Rideout in Wilmington, Delaware. She received her early education in the public schools of Wilmington and graduated from Howard High School. After high school, she attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dot was employed with the Department of Labor for 35 years, and was on the Secretary of Labor's staff when she retired. Dot was a member of St. Matthew's Grand Chapter OES, Martha Chapter OES, Heroines of Jericho Court and Grand Chapter, Suakim Court #54 Daughters of Isis, Fannie Brice Court of the Cyrenes and the Golden Circle of Delaware Assembly #43 for more than 50 years. She was also on the Wilmington Aging Advisory Council, and very active with the Wilmington Senior Center. She leaves to cherish her memory Three Children; Michael L. Ruffin, Charleen Y. Jones, and Thomas A. Norris; One Sister, Hazel Sullivan (Philadelphia); One Brother, Herbert Anderson (Washington D.C.); five Grandchildren, Randolph Ruffin (Scranton, PA), Jacqueline Jones, Ashley Cannon (Baltimore, MD), Teisha Norris, and Thomas Norris, jr ; 9 Great-Grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and many friends.
