Remembering Jewell

The Beginning

Life began for Bennie Jewell Williams Poon in Samson, Alabama on December 27, 1927.  She was the daughter to the late Jessie & Viola Williams.

The Transition

In the afternoon of Wednesday, January 27, 2021 God dispatched his angels to Regency Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, DE where Jewell transitioned from this life to her rewarded home in Glory.

Employment

Jewell was a stay at home wife and mother before being employed at Riverside Hospital where she retired after 22 years of service.

Family

Jewell was untied in holy matrimony to Thomas Poon Sr. and from this union 8 children were born. In the late 1940’s Thomas and Jewell left Alabama for a fresh start. Thomas and Jewell made Wilmington their home. Jewell shared life lessons with her children and grandchildren so they could become strong members of society while keeping God first in their lives. Jewell was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

The “Person”

Jewell loved being surrounded by her many children and grandchildren. The more the merrier. Jewell also enjoyed cooking and shopping with her daughters. Jewell had a beautiful personality. She was full of wisdom, strength and dignity. She enjoyed helping people stay on track however if you got out of line, she would surely put you back in line. Jewell was A Past Worthy Grand Matron in the order of the Eastern Star. Jewell was also a member of Saint David’s Lodge.

The Servant

Jewell was a faithful member of Mount Zion Greater Harvest Church for over 60 over years. She was involved in several ministries including, Choir and Usher Board.

Luke 12:47 - And that servant who knew his master’s will and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes, was Jewell’s favorite scripture. She made sure each of her many family members knew this verse.
