Cornelius Hurtt

Obituary of Cornelius "Ted" T. Hurtt

Cornelius T. Hurtt, Sr. (Ted) was born on September 8, 1949, to the late Lucille Hurtt and Theodore Johnson. He was educated in the Wilmington School District.

Ted was employed with the City of Wilmington, retiring after 20 plus years. He was later employed with the Brandywine School District, where he retired in 2000. Ted was a man of conviction, who was direct and precise. A protector and provider to many, who loved Martial Arts, and listening to Gospel, Jazz and Oldies. He was known for helping others and lending sound advice. He took pride in ownership and you could see him on any given day tidying the street sweeping, picking up paper and encouraging others to exhibit that same pride.

Surrounded by his loving and devoted son, Cornelius T. Hurtt Jr, his daughter-in love, Iesha, grandchildren Iyana and Logan and best friend Diane Jervey, Ted transitioned on Saturday, January 9, 2021, God's number of completion and finality. He is survived by his brothers, Milton Hurtt, of Harrisburg PA, James Bennifield, of Maryland and loving sister Marlene Hurtt, of Newark DE; a niece, Jessica Hurtt-Dunkley and two nephews, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley and Michael Hurtt; along with a host of cousins.

Special thanks to caregiver, Della King for her excellent care, Aston Homecare and Compassionate Care.

At Ted's request, services will be private.
