Obituary of Berlene J. Lewis

Berlene Jacobs was born on November 22, 1937 in Wade, North Carolina to the late James R. Jacobs Sr. and Fannie Ray Jacobs. She peacefully went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2020, in Middletown, Delaware.

Berlene affectionately known as “Bean” attended schools in Wade, North Carolina. She moved to Chester, Pennsylvania in 1957. Bean held various employment positions, including Teledyne Wirz in Chester Pennsylvania, Nursing Assistant, and The Good Will in Wilmington Delaware.

Berlene met, fell in love, and married Alex J. Lewis in 1967 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She was a loving mother to her two sons, William “Al” Jacobs, and Sidney R. Jacobs.

Berlene was preceded in death by her siblings, Georgia Jacobs-Bishop, James R. Jacobs, William Henry Jacobs, Theodosia Jacobs-Ross, Marjorie Jacobs-Roman, and Ivory Jacobs-Cozart. She was also predeceased by two loving daughters-in-law Ada (Dolly) Laws Jacobs (William “Al”) and Rita Ann Harmon Jacobs (Sidney).

Berlene leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Alex J. Lewis, sons Councilman William “Al” Jacobs, Esq. (Pamela) and Dr. Sidney R. Jacobs (Dr. Michelle Santana), seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Erma Jo Jacobs (James Jacobs) and brother-in-law Robert Ross (Theodosia Jacobs-Ross), a special niece Karen Ross who cared for her and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
