Obituary of Curley Mae Mitchell

Curley Mae Mitchell was born January 9, 1932 in Johnsonville, S.C, to Sam Joe Brown and Luella Rogers-Brown. She passed on November 20, 2020 at Kentmere Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Wilmington, Delaware. She received Christ at an early age and joined St. James Baptist Church in Johnsonville, SC. Curley Mae, received her early childhood education from Vox Community School in Johnsonville, SC from which she also graduated. After school she continued to work on the farm, until she met and married David J. Mitchell, then moved to Winston Salem, NC, then to Wilmington, DE. She did domestic help for many years until her health failed. Curley Mae, was a faithful member of Harrison Memorial Baptist Church, then Mount Sinai Baptist Church, then, Manna Christian Fellowship Church. She was an avid shopper, she loved Cowtown, ValueCity and Sidewalk sales. She loved clothes, shoes, hats, bags and matching accessories. She loved to sing and praise her God. Her favorite saying was, “Sing Children!" She loved to sing and she sang with the McCants Relations Singers and The Inspirational Chorus, of which she helped to organize and was President for a period of time. Curley Mae, was preceded in death by her husband David J. Mitchell, her siblings Gary L. Brown(Thelma), Mary L Barr(Luther), Idean McGill(Jessie), Raleigh J. Brown(Alvilta), Ellenor Jones Lomax(Fred), Sylvia L. Singltary(Wash) and Woodroe Brown (Murlese). She is survived by her only God Child, Kenneth Brown Jr (Slugger). Her special Niece Deloris Barr and Nephew Kenneth Brown, Sr. who she depended on for duties beyond the nursing home. She also has a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
