Professional formality, would have me call you Dr. Odutola but in my heart and life you have become my Big Mommy. As I sit here and reread one of our last few text messages, your words stand out to me, “I will stand with you...” and “Keep trusting your Heavenly Father...” These words you embodied without hesitation.
Big Mommy, your walk in this life was not in vain! You have touched so many individuals and your impact in our lives will remain strong! Thank you for always reminding me to put God first and praying for me when I couldn’t find the words to pray for myself. Thank you for being so selfless and kind.
I promise you Big Mommy, your light will never be dim. Your story will never be untold!
I love you.

“But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”
Matthew 25:31-40
—————————
Dr. O, you were a Teacher, Aunty, mother, comforter, and friend. Everyday on that Island, you mentored us, tutored us, and guided us. Physician was your profession, but I believe that God placed you on that Island to particularly impact the lives that you did and do His work. I watched you sit down with the new student roster/photos, and pore over the list, personally reaching out to students who did not know you, extending out an invitation for mentorship and friendship. School hours were not a thing - you were available 24/7 to us. Your selflessness and dedication that you showed to me and your students can not be described by a few words.
When I came back after my first semester, unexpectedly pregnant with my second child, I was filled with fear! Fear about finishing my medical education. You sat me down in your office, prayed with me, and told me “are you the first one to have a child in medical school ? Are you the last?” Dr. O, your humour and steadfastness was inspiring. I took your innate belief in me, and was left with no choice but to embody it!
Today, I am who I am because of you. Nigerian, female, radiologist! What a taboo! I was inspired by you from day one. I was so excited to message you when I matched into Radiology, I can only pray to be half of the doctor you were.
Dr. O, the news of your passing is heartbreaking! But I say to you, well done!
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’”
Dr. O, we were strangers to you, and you invited us in. We were home sick, and you adopted us into your family. We were hungry and thirsty for God, and you fed us His word.
I love you, and will miss you terribly!
Rest In Peace Dr. O
