Obituary of Maude Richardson

Maude Dozier Morgan Richardson was one of eight children born to Charlie and Minnie Mae (Frazier) Dozier in Americus, Georgia on August 18, 1921. Maude attended elementary and secondary school locally. After attending Georgia State College for two years, she returned home to teach in a one-room schoolhouse. Maude moved to New York City where she met and married her first love, Roger Morgan. Two years after his passing, she found love again with Charles Richardson. Maude retired from the New York Public Library after over thirty years of service. Maude’s strong faith in God sustained her throughout her life. She was actively involved in her church serving as a Sunday School teacher, missionary worker, and choir member. She was also involved in various community organizations including neighborhood associations, block watchers, and the Forest Park Steppers. Maude loved to read, sew, garden, host, and joke about “dancing a jig or talking about gents”. What gave Maude the most pleasure was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Maude loved fiercely and instilled that love in them. Family was not just the people who were blood related, but people who understood the value of family and community. Maude made sure her family knew they were loved and she demonstrated how to love and build family. She moved with grace in everything she did – raising her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, working in a library, communing with church family and friends, feeding their spirits as well as their bodies. Maude’s fried chicken and sweet potato pies were always a big hit! Her memory will be treasured by her sister Minnie Haynes, brother Ulysses Dozier, her daughter, Rita Morgan Edwards, step-children Ralph Morgan, Regina Sherman, Linnett Richardson and Renee Richardson, her grandchildren Maia, Kyree (Shysheika) and Chevonne Edwards and her great-grandchildren Mycah, Morgan and Kyree Jr as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Her legacy of love will be remembered by the family and friends she touched with her warm spirit and loving heart.
