Obituary of Lucille Rose Whyte

Lucille “Rose” Malcolm Whyte was born on February 24, 1946 in Nine Mile, St. Ann, Jamaica West Indies. She went home to glory on September 4, 2020 at home in Wilmington, Delaware. Rose received her early childhood education in St. Ann, Jamaica. Through the help of her big brother “D” (David) Malcolm and her father Omariah Malcolm, she migrated to the U.S. in 1964, completed her High School education, and graduated from Howard High School in Delaware. Rose then went on to receive her college degree from Goldey-Beacom College. After college she worked at the Wilmington Medical Center (Christiana Care) as a well-known and much beloved phlebotomist for 40 years. Rose was a faithful and spiritual person who spent several years as a member of the Kingdom Hall and remained connected to the Apostolic churches of her family throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Omariah and Lurline Malcolm, and her siblings Dawn, Roy, Joy, Enid, “Cidy” (Cedella), Amy, “Sister Brown” (Ivy), Ceita, Gibson, “D” (David), Solomon, Boysie, Sir John, and John. She was the last of her siblings: the “original” Malcolms of Nine Mile, Jamaica, the birthplace of her nephew Bob Marley. Rose is survived by her loving husband of 33 years Thaddious “Taddy” Whyte, her sons Michael Shaw and Robert “Bobby” Malcolm, daughter Shernette Whyte, niece Kayonne Mitchell, step-sons Zico, Earl, and Shaun, step-daughters Suzan “Chin” Whyte, Tadika Whyte, and Tanya Armstrong, grandson and granddaughter, god-children, and a host of many more nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God” ~ Matthew 5:8. If there was one person who truly defined this scripture it is Rose. Throughout her life she touched many lives, helped thousands medically through her profession, had an unconditional love for her family, her children, her husband, her friends, and strangers she met. She was a true lady: beautiful inside and out, humble, easy to forgive someone, easy to brighten someone’s day, and easy to care for anyone she met. She was also very giving; helping her family, her children, nieces, and nephews with anything they needed. She was an angel on earth, now singing with the angels in heaven.
