Obituary of Linda Thornton

Linda Prophet-Thornton, daughter of Blondell Prophet and the late Ben Prophet Sr., was born January 22, 1953 and peacefully departed this life on August 20, 2020 in Christiana Hospital. Linda received her early education in the New Castle County public schools. She attended Wilmington College and later received a Master’s Degree in Human Services from Springfield College (Wilm. Campus). Linda enjoyed learning and attended many workshops and seminars earning certificates for Human Services, Drug and Alcohol, and Mental Health services. Linda retired from Christiana Care after thirty years. Later she worked as a Horizon House Manager, she also worked for the Public School System. Linda was an active and faithful member of Cornerstone Fellowship Baptist Church, serving in the In Touch and Ephesians Ministry. She sang in the Adult Choir until her work schedule conflicted with rehearsal schedule. She sometimes was a server for the Culinary Ministry. Linda loved Christ and her family. She made conversation with everyone and could talk for hours. She had a great sense of humor but could “could get with you” if necessary. She was a caregiver and nurturer, one of God’s quiet soldiers. She visited or called the sick always sharing encouragement and a joke. Linda was married to the late Herman V. Thornton and from this union two children were born, Andre M. and Tiea B. Thornton. She leaves to cherish her memories her mother Blondell Prophet; 2 children and 1 special granddaughter Andreahna Thornton; 3 brothers and Ben (Gracie), Marvin (Margaret), Robert (Valeria) Prophet; 1 sister Joyce P. (Willie) Singleton; a devoted friend Shirley Young, a host nieces, nephews, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
