Maxine Sam

Obituary of Maxine R. Sam

Maxine Revis Sam, daughter of Mack D. Revis, Sr. and Mabel B. Revis (both deceased) was born in Chester, Pennsylvania and raised in Linwood, Pennsylvania. She attended school in Linwood and Boothwyn, where she graduated from Chichester High School in 1958. After graduating high school, she attended The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing with a full scholarship from the Worth Steel Corporation. After graduation, Maxine became a Registered Nurse at Lankenau Hospital. Shortly thereafter, she became a Nursing Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania and Lankenau Hospital. She was then recruited by the Philadelphia School District to head up their School Nurse Program for their inner city schools. She worked with the school children for years before retiring. Maxine met and married the love of her life, Arthur L. Sam, Sr. in November 1958. From that union, she had two sons, Faheem Akil (Arthur L. Sam, Jr.) and Aaron V. Sam. Affectionately referred to as "Max" she was a member of St. Matthew's CME Church of Twin Oaks, Pennsylvania and was very active in church functions, and was supportive of her husband's efforts to support the local youth groups of the church and the community. During her later retirement years, she enjoyed her home life, especially thrift store shopping and yard sales. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marilyn in December 2008, Margaret in July 2010, and her husband, Arthur in October 2016. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Faheem and Aaron; daughter-in-law, Sherri (Aisha); grandchildren, Jamil (Nadege), Jhalil (Keyona), Hannah, Myah and Great Grandson, Adam. She is also survived by her sister, Melanie Jolicoeur and her brothers, Mack D. Revis, Jr. and Mead W. Revis, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
