Obituary of Danny Powell

Danny Powell, affectionately known as Sport,” and “Que Ball,” transitioned from this life on June 28, 2020. Dan was born in Wilmington on July 9, 1958 to Margaret Powell, and Reese Dixon. He grew up in Old New Castle, and received his education in the public school system. He loved to be with family, and friends just cracking jokes and being the life of the party. He is survived by his children, Daniel, Danyae, Dannell, and Kajuan Powell, and Daniel Lewis. Brother of Sarah Johnson (George), Donald (Dana), Larry, Michelle, Mark (Sharon), Irene, Carolyn, Mary Ann, and the late Ronald, Anthony, and April. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Vanaziah Terrell, Eunique Ayers, Taniya Hall, Morhgan Powell, Keenan Mitchell-Powell, and Sha’Niyah Powell: his life partner, Durocher Hill, and children, Olivia, and Lataheshia Hill; ex-wife, Patricia Person, and niece, Kim Geter, along with a host of family and close friends. Danny loved to hang out on the corner of 9th & Pine Streets with his friends, where you could always find him. He prided himself on being there for his children when they needed him. He often cooked and catered to them when he was with them. He will truly be missed by all. It’s hard to turn the page when you know someone won’t be in the next chapter, but the story must go on - Unknown Author We, the family of Danny Powell, would like to thank everyone for their heartfelt sympathies, well wishes, and words of encouragement. Dan was a happy go lucky person who enjoyed life, and as sad and sudden as his passing was, he would have wanted everyone to rejoice at the time he spent on this earth. He lived life his life to his fullest ability, and we know that he would have wanted everyone to do the same, “OKAY?” God grants each of us a life, to do with it as we please, “RIGHT OR WRONG?” It’s not promised how long we will be here, but for the time that we are, let’s love each other. Let’s show up for each other. Let’s pull together to make it happen, no matter what it is. Let’s not play games, because “TRICKS ARE FOR KIDS.” Let us see the good in others, as they see in us. Lastly, let’s always be honest with one another. Never, ever “PEE DOWN SOMEONE’S BACK AND TELL THEM THAT IT’S RAINING!”
