Obituary of David Anthony Pennewell

David Anthony Pennewell Jr., “Dawud”, age 47, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Dawud was born on November 1, 1972 in Dover, Delaware to his parents David Pennewell Sr. and Thelma B. Parker. Dawud was a loving son, brother, father, nephew, uncle, grandfather, and supportive friend. He graduated with his high school diploma and received his Associates Degree in 2010 from Durham Community College. In addition to Dawud’s education, he prided himself on obtaining other skill sets and trades, such as becoming certified as an Auto Mechanic and obtaining his CDL’s. He was a proud Longshoreman for the Local 1694 working at the Port of Wilmington for the past 10 years. His ability to balance family, work, and social life was a true testament of his dedication, perseverance, and strength. “Dawud” was affectionately referred to as “PE”, “King”, and “Boss” by his family and friends. His life consisted of many enjoyable moments where he loved playing pool, swimming, driving his cars, truck, motorcycle, fishing, and playing chess. He was known for his infectious smile, contagious spirit, and undeniable protection for his family. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He always stayed “Sharp” as he would say. He was a Westside Legend. He was known for his transparency and getting straight to the point. He loved to cook and would show off his skills to everyone. Dawud had it all because “That’s What Kings Do” as he would say. Dawud was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vera Pennewell, Frederick Pennewell Sr., his maternal grandparents, Naomi Bessicks, Preston Bessicks, his Aunts, Celestine Oliver, Pearl Bessicks, Uncle Frederick Donald Jr, and devoted friend Donminico “CoCo” Melton. Dawud leaves to cherish his memory, his Loving Parents Thelma B. Parker, David Pennewell Sr., Timothy Parker (stepfather), Siblings; William Bessicks (Belisha) and Lisa Forever, Kimberly Brown, His Children; Sameera Thompson, Dayonna Pennewell, Dawud Pennewell, Khaleem Pennewell, and Stepson Shaheem Brant, Grandchildren; Eri’ana Robinson and Zhara Pennewell Stull; Fiancé; Stacie Ann Bailey, Great Uncles; Rev. Walter Dixon (Constance), Harry Dixon (Debbie), Harold Dixon (Millie), Great Aunts; Evangelist Charlotte Tull, Bertha Green, Evelyn Dixon, Uncles; Jerry Pennewell (Jennie), Preston Bessicks Jr., Aunts;Vera Brown (Marc), Donna Lee Saunders, Francine Stevens, Delores Stevens, Jacquelyn Bessicks, Sharon Bessicks, Dawud’s Godfather, Roscoe Wilson; Best friend and God father to his children Keith “Funk” Barnhart, Best friend Charles “C Mack” Powell , God Children; Kiana , Najae , Khalier , and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
