I remember growing up with you Tommy and your sisters. You were a beautiful soul, so full of life and joy and have grown into an amazing human being. I am so glad I got to connect back with you over the past couple of years and I know we talked about meeting up in Europe at some point. I will always think about you when I travel now. You will be missed and forever loved. Rest in Heaven and continue being the forever burning light.
Forever in love, Sharon Chandler Fleener

When we met Tommy for the first time he was instantly at ease, funny and so easy to talk to. It was evident that he had many friends and found life exciting and the world and those in it worth exploring. Enjoyed his pictures from his extensive travel - very talented ! Tommy was always so loving and gracious with my parents when he would come to visit with Eric and Jeanne and the family. He is traveling another path right now - and I am sure making friends along the way. Sending our love and sympathy. Joan and Bill

What can I say that I hasn’t be said already? I will miss your physical presence, huge smile, hearty laugh and upbeat positive attitude. We had some good times and our conversations I’m positive shaped our outlook on life. It’s too short and too valuable to not enjoy with the people you want to surround yourself with. I admired your ability to go ANYWHERE and make yourself at home. I know one of the people you admired was Paul Robeson and that’s who I would compare you to because of your many talents. We won sports championships together, we got into fights protecting each other, we always laughed and at times we cried. You were in my wedding and an Uncle to my children. I knew at any minute you would be there and Vice versa. That is more than friendship, that is brotherhood. Going to miss you by any of your names Golden Boy, Tommy G, Thom or Tommy but I know you will always be present. You are joining some people who are very special to me in Heaven. Rest in Power

I met Thom while going through the notorious 'Poi Pet' border from Thailand to Cambodia. I think we had both wandered through and were trying to figure out how to make the following journey onward to Phnom Phen. We shared a taxi along pot-holed dusty road and arrived an hour or two later. I got to know him a little, I remember some topics we discussed (aside from the main one - travel) were what I call American Football and music. He was big and bold. I remember discussing with him how I would like to do some volunteer work, but hadn't been proactive in seeking any. The following night, as we sat at a bar on the beach, he spotted that the barmaid was wearing a t shirt with a charity logo on it and immediately started a conversation with her about how I'd been talking about getting involved. I learned some interesting stuff and later returned to the same town to volunteer for the same charity. He seemed to me to be an approachable, friendly, passionate man. It turned out that the Khmer word for big was 'Thom' so the locals would call him Thom-Thom. The most vivid memory I have of him for some reason, happens to be at the same bar.. He put some music on his discman (I think it was discman, this is how long ago it was) and asked me what I thought about the guitar playing on it. I said "wow, yeah - really good". He replied - "Prince was nineteen when he did that" with a look in his eyes of wonder. We lost touch years ago. We met in passing, but he helped me out - of that I have no doubt. I'm sorry to hear this sad news and I offer all his family and friends my deepest condolences.

Thomas was loved by everyone for his outgoing and caring personality. He was a bit of everything - the entertainer, the teacher, the singer, the traveler, and of course, the life and soul of the party! For me, most of all Thomas was family. He was there for me through the good times and the bad. He was there to celebrate together, and there when I needed encouraging words of wisdom. Thomas used to tell me, "We need to think positively, it's no good to focus on the negative". Although it's hard to accept Tommy's passing, I will follow his advice, always remembering our friendship, and all those great times we spent together.
Thomas, I love you, man. Rest in peace, my great friend!
But please understand, even after death you're still not off the hook...
I will continue to write to you, or talk with you from time to time, until we meet again.

I had the privelege of working with Thomas in Japan. We had many lively debates usually ending with him just smiling and laughing and agreeing to disagree. I was deeply saddened to hear if his passing. He was always full of life and he made it easy to look forward to spending a day working at the school. I always look back on those days with fondness and Thomas was a big part of those memories!
It's been a while since we were last in touch but he was the sort of guy you could pick up easily with no matter how much time had gone by. Please accept my deepest condolences.
I pray blessings for the family, and may your memories bring you comfort during this time. He was a special guy and I am glad to have known him!

Ms. Jean,
Tommy was a very kind man, I miss our happy hour at Charley's place every Friday, Charles would have wings, shrimp and salad for us all. Tommy bought me this straw hat from Italy as a gift for taking care of Charles. I miss all of Tommy's trip talks and all the different foods he loved to eat.
