Obituary of Lois R. Gaitwood

Lois Gaitwood was born on June 15, 1931 in Suffolk, VA, to Lena and Benny Parker (deceased). Mother Gaitwood was a widow preceded in death by 2 brothers: Maurice Parker and Nathaniel Parker, 2 grandsons: Christopher Gaitwood Jr. and Kyle Watson, 1 great grandson: Ainsley Cumberbatch. Survived by her brother David Parker, (Eliz Parker) Children: Cleopase Whittle, Audrey Ringgold, Christopher Gaitwood, Joanne Gaitwood, Corliss Zawistowski, and Andrea Harris. 12 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren. As well as other family and friends. Mother Gaitwood was a strong God fearing woman, who raised 6 children and multiple grandchildren with a firm hand, she met what she said. She wasn’t afraid of anyone or any challenge that came her way. Lois R. Gaitwood was a longtime resident of the Eastside of Wilmington, Delaware where she enjoyed sitting on her porch greeting her community in her feisty way and the neighbors offered loving support. Mother Gaitwood passed away in her sleep April 23, 2020 with her left hand raised toward the sky and her guardian angel escorted her home. She was 88 years old and lived a strong, rich, full life in her family home. Mother Gaitwood was an avid reader, loved church, shopping, and cooking, she baked the best sweet potato pies and home-made potato salad, she valued traveling to visit family so they could pamper her. She was a rare combination of someone who had love for life and a firm understanding of what was important –the simplicity of living a life with those you love. The one thing she would want her family to know is she is well in God's Kingdom. “Repent and Confess that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose from the dead. Turn from your sins and invite God into your heart and life; on this day you can be saved and see me again in heaven.” Amen
