Obituary of Janet M. Johnson

Janet Marie (Harris) Johnson of New Castle, DE passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2020 with her loving family by her side. She was born September 3, 1948 in West Chester, PA, the daughter of the late Robert Glenn Harris, Sr. and Rachel O. (Ruff) Harris of Kennett Square, PA. Janet graduated from Kennett High School in Kennett Square, PA in 1967 and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1968 she began her career at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA where she worked in numerous departments including emergency and labor and delivery. Janet enjoyed her career in nursing for 50 years before she retired. In her free time she enjoyed attending church, traveling, cooking, baking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. Janet grew up attending Christ Temple Church in Kennett Square, PA with her parents. As an adult she became a of member of Word of Life Church founded by the late Allen G. Tate. She later joined Brighter Way Ministries under the direction of C. Ernie Stevens where she attended faithfully and was a member of S.W.A.T. (Seniors With A Testimony). Her annual highlight service of the year was Biker Sunday where bikers including her brother Robert and son Darren would bring their motorcycles to be blessed for the year. Janet will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and those who knew her. She was always ready to greet people with a smile and a hug. She enjoyed meeting new people no matter where she went and could hold a conversation with anyone about just about anything. She found it easy to relate to people on their level. Her love and warmth will never be forgotten. Janet was proceeded in death by her father Robert Glenn Harris, Sr, mother, Rachel O. (Ruff) Harris, and oldest brother Thomas Burruss. Janet leaves to cherish her memory her older brother Robert G. Harris, Jr.(Carmen) of Oxford, PA, her son Darren Glenn Harris, Sr. of Felton, DE, her daughter, Erica Marie Allen of New Castle, DE, 5 grandchildren Darren Glenn Harris, Jr. of Newark, DE, Morgan Shanae Watson of Smyrna, DE, Ciana Marie Wilson, Tiana Marie Wilson, and Eric Allen Wilson all of New Castle, DE along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Services and burial will be held privately due to the current pandemic. A memorial will be announced at a later date to fully honor the life of Janet when possible.
