Obituary of Hazel M. Ellis

Hazel Mobley Ellis was born on September 20, 1928 in Baxley, Georgia to John Wesley Mobley and Marina Cray Mobley. Hazel attended Appling County Public School in Baxley, Georgia. In October of 1945, she decided to relocate and journeyed to Delaware. In October 1949, Hazel married William “Grover” Ellis. Hazel was the mother of four children; Marina Starks, Magdaleine Cameron, Mary Jean Ellis Howard and Albert Ellis. One of Hazel’s first jobs was was a demonstrator for a presser manufacture. She enjoyed going to clothes cleaners throughout the area, demonstrating the appropriate way to use a presser. After years in that position she accepted a job at the mushroom factory, where she worked for many years. Hazel was a comical, compassionate, loving, people person. She loved God, her family, church family and friends. Her witty sense of humor would have you laughing with her always on time....punch line. Hazel was available with a loving ear and sound advice that reflected her loving spirit; she loved to see people happy. Hazel loved God and enjoyed serving Him. She began her Christian walk in Delaware as a faithful choir member at Faith Memorial Baptist Church. She attended FMBC for many years before joining New Mt Bethel. She was an active member at New Mt Bethel for over sixty years and attended regularly, until her health began to fail. She was a Mother of the church, choir member, willing workers and loved her weekly bible group. One of Hazel’s enjoyable pass times was attending Hicks Anderson Senior Center. She looked forward to spending time with her friends and going on trips. She enjoyed writing and reciting poems and she was a hat lady. She had hats in all colors, shapes and sizes; she could wear a hat and would make it look good! Hazel dropped the cares of this world to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family on March 15, 2020. She leaves to mourn with precious memories, two daughters; Marina Starks and Magdaleine Cameron, 6 grandchildren , 12 great-grand children and 4 great great-grand children. Two loving caregivers; grand daughter Nina Ellis and niece Valerie Lee, her nieces, nephews, church family and friends. Family members who preceded her in death are, her parents, husband,; William Ellis, daughter; Mary Jean Howard and son; Albert Ellis, two brothers Herman (Dorothy) and Rudolph Mobley, two sisters, Mae Etta Jones (James) and Queen M. Johnson (Sylvester).
