Mother Margaret Watson

Obituary of Mother Margaret Mae Watson

Margaret Mae Watson was born on December 22, 1944, in Wilmington, DE to Martha Johnson and Luis Hayman and later raised by Florence and Clarence Hicks. Margaret received her early education from the Wilmington Public School System. She followed her passion of caring for others by working as a nurse for over 30 years. She worked for many years as a charge nurse at the former Layton Home for the Aged until their closing. She worked as a nurse for Cokesbury Village Retirement Community and later retired from Martin Luther Homes as a Case Manager. Margaret loved caring for her family and never hesitated to show that love by taking care of her parents, uncle Elwood and mother in law Beatrice Kilson until their passing. Margaret’s loving and compassionate spirit lead her to open her home to care for others through her affiliation with Connections CSP Inc., which organizes care for displaced mentally challenged adults. On July 7, 1968, Margaret met the love of her life Edward Watson through an introduction from her brother Ronnie. They were married in Holy Matrimony on April 5, 1969, from this union they nurtured and raised three children, Romaro, Tashel and Jamar. As a young child, Margaret accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour. She attended church regularly with her parents Florence and Clarence Hicks at The United House of Prayer for All People. In 1977 Margaret along with her husband and children joined Ezion Fair Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Jimmie Lee Henry. Immediately Margaret became active in several organizations within the church. For many years she held positions in the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Missionaries and she worked with the Vacation Bible School, but her true love was singing God’s Praises. She joined The Henry Gospel Chorus and loved traveling to neighboring states and looked forward each year to their Anniversary Celebration which was always a grand event in Wilmington. She later joined the Senior Choir and The EFBC Mass Choir. Music was always a part of Margaret’s life and many didn’t know she could play the piano and organ. Her passion for gospel music lead her to join and record with The Northern Stars, and Russell Thomas and The Gospel Souls. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. T. Curry, Margaret was elevated to The Mother’s Board in July 2011. With the blessings of Pastor Curry, Mother Watson founded The Season Saint’s Ministry and planned events and excursions until her failing health. Mother loved her church family and looked forward to attending service each Sunday. She always bragged how she was treated like a queen and she always knew Deacon Tillery was waiting to help her in the church and Rev. Corey Burke was going to take her picture. Margaret has left a lifetime of memories with her family and friends, from the weekly Tuesday cowtown trips with Edward to the weekend Outings with her daughter Tashel and granddaughter Shakeya. Margaret leaves to cherish her memories to her husband of over 50 years Edward Watson daughter Tashel Berry and only grandchild Shakeya Watson. she was preceded in death by her son's Romaro Watson and Jamar Watson. She also leaves 8 siblings Evelyn Ward, Nioka Hinson, Katherine Wilson, Nancy Thomas (Willey), Ronald Martin, Howard Hinson (Denise), William Martin, and Ethel Anthony (Phillip). She was also preceded in death by her siblings Norman Martin, Wanda Johnson, Carmen Harmon, and Curtis Raison. Margaret is survived by 5 godchildren James Green, Tandrea Hinson, Lisa Johnson, Kaitlin Johnson, and Tin'Nearra Williams. Her favorite scripture was “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”Jeremiah 29:11
