Thelma Collins

Obituary of Thelma D. Collins

Thelma Delores Collins, daughter of the late Aaron and Sarah Foster, was born October 19, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. She went peacefully to sleep surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the Christiana Care Hospital, Wilmington, DE. She attended Clark Training Institute High School in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee and worked at Camp Ramapo for many summers, where she was a cook. She often took neighbors and friends to work with her. After moving to Wilmington, DE in 1954, she became a homemaker. Thelma did a lot of babysitting of her grandchildren, family and friends. She loved family gatherings and trips to Nashville to spend time with friends and family. She always mixed up her children’s names. But if you were the one who did something, you knew who she meant. Thelma was baptized as a Jehovah Witness on November 9, 2002 in Turnersville, NJ and attended the Kingdom Hall in Wilmington, DE. When she was no longer able to attend, she was on the phone listening to the word. Thelma loved watching old movies on TV. Her favorites were Westerns and Walker Texas Ranger. When she was not watching TV, she was listening to gospel music. Her favorite was the Canton Spirituals of Tennessee. Thelma had a beautiful smile and would speak and smile at you even if she didn’t remember or know who you were. She loved eating “hot water cornbread”. Thelma loved to cook, bake and eat good food. Prior to her health beginning to fail, she requested of her children to take her back home to Tennessee to visit family and friends. Each request was honored and she enjoyed being pampered by her family. She always enjoyed the family reunions and get-togethers.
