Obituary of Charles Miller - Bey

Charles (Rahsaan)(Chezy) Sterling Miller-Bey was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 21, 1944 to the late Ellen Collins and the late Sterling Miller. Rahsaan peacefully transitioned from this life on November 13, 2019 at home. He received his early education in the Wilmington Public School System.

Rahsaan was a dedicated community activist in the Wilmington area for many years and served in the Delaware General Assembly in the House of Representatives in 1971.

Rahsaan was employed as a Longshoreman in Local 1694 for over 20 years, during which he served terms in the positions of President, Vice President and Business Agent.

Rahsaan was a founding member of the Progressive Longshoremen’s Organization (PLO), an organization that strived to bring positive change to policies and procedures in the Union. Some of those changes achieved during this movement are still in place today.

Rahsaan loved all genres of music and DJ’d back in the day as “The Mighty Rahsaan”. Rahsaan also loved martial arts, becoming a Sensei to many. He was an assistant coach with the Kingswood girls’ softball team and enjoyed playing the sport himself as a pitcher with various teams in New Castle County.

In addition to his parents, Rahsaan was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Terrell and his grandson, Tahsaan Jamir Miller.

Rahsaan leaves not to mourn his death, but to rejoice in his memory, his devoted wife of 45 years, Marion Miller; his children, Charles R.
