Obituary of Helen Singletary Allen

Helen Lenore Singletary passed from earth to glory early Monday morning, August 26, 2019.  She was born in Bridgeton, NJ to Georgia Bea and Claxton (Mr. Tucks) Singletary on April 17, 1961. Helen was affectionately known as “Sweet Thang”, a name given to her by her father because he thought she was the sweetest thing (thang) on earth.

Helen was educated in Bridgeton public schools and after high school attended Cumberland Community College. She moved to Denver Colorado in the early 80’s and worked in the banking industry. After long term employment with Citi Bank Helen became employed with the Delaware State Court Collections, where she remained until her passing.

In 1981 Helen married Leroy Allen Jr. and from that union was blessed with two sons, Michael Jamereh Allen and Leroy Allen III.  Soon after the birth of her sons the family relocated to Hagerstown, Maryland and a short time later made a permanent home in Newark, Delaware.

Helen faithfully trusted in the power and love of God.  It was during the “Operation Salvation Ministry” at Union Baptist Temple Church in Bridgeton, NJ where she accepted Jesus into her heart.  Throughout her life Helen worshipped and servedseveral churches: Union Baptist Temple, in Bridgeton, NJ,Alpha Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE, Consolation Fellowship in New Castle DE, and the Joshua Harvest Church in Wilmington DE. In her final years she is visited several churches but considered Pastor Jeffery Johnson of New Life Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE to be her pastor.   She was an evangelist and sang, recorded, and travelled with her sister Linda Kemp Bland and the praise ministry.

Helen  was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Eloise Walker, and a brother, Oscar L. Singletary

Helen, our loving Sweet Thang, leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Michael and Leroy, two sisters, Cindy Singletary and Linda Kemp Bland, two grandsons, Amir and Rakir, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and coworkers. .
