Obituary of Hazel Virginia Waters(Thompson)

Hazel Virginia Thompson Waters, affectionally known to most as ”Mom Hazel”, was born on March 31, 1920, to the late James and Mabel Cann Thompson of Fairlee, MD.  She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Christiana Hospital in Christiana, DE.

Mom Hazel received her education in the Kent County Public School System.  After receiving her education , she became a traveling Domestic Engineer and worked for many families in Baltimore and Pennsylvania to name a few. What gave her great joy was being a Caretaker for many in the community of Warwick, MD.

On June 20, 1948, she married the love of her life Clifton Emmanuel Waters.  From this union eight children, James(Joe Lewis), Thomas, Dorothy(Cookie), Kenneth, Clinton, Jackie, Carmen and Danny were nurtured, loved and raised.

Mom Hazel was a member of Johnson Chapel United Methodist Church in Warwick, MD until the merger with John Wesley United Methodist Church in Sassafras, MD, which she remained a member as it became The Wesley Chapel of Love United Methodist Church.  She served in many roles within the church, such as Steward, Trustee and Assistant to the Pastor.

She enjoyed family and time spent with family.  She also enjoyed cooking and would make different recipes for all to try.  She was an avid reader and would sit and read her bible, newspapers and magazines for hours.  Her favorite past time was talking on the phone with  Booker(Nellie), Cassie and Aunt Sug along with watching Law and Order SVU, The Young and The Restless and My 600-lb Life.  She would always say “how could they let themselves get that big and just eat, eat, eat!
