Obituary of Oscar Lee Edwards

Oscar Lee Edwardswas born on June 30, 1938 in Wilson, NC to Mabel and Roscoe Edwards.  He passed on Monday, December 10th at Christiana Care in Newark, DE.

“Shorty” as he affectionately was known finished his education by the 9th grade.  He would then start his life of employment at a very early age.  Shorty had a passion for using his hands, where he learned the skill of carpentry.  With his carpentry skills he would rise to the challenge of building a party house with a juke box, dance floor, bar and pool table where he lived in MD.  If you didn’t know he loved to party.  However, his hobby and interest in fixing cars kept him employed as a mechanic for many years.  Even after retiring, his favorite past time was to work on cars.  There was not a car he wouldn’t attempt to fix and there was not a tool he couldn’t resist purchasing to get a car on the road.   

Along his journey Shorty met Gloria Jean (Dorsett) Edwards from Washington, DC where they wouldmarry and live in the Washington Metropolitan area.  Their marriage ended in separation but with a fondness that remained.  Gloria preceded Oscar in death.In this union they had 4 children. 

Shorty was preceded in death by his brother John Edwards and his parents Roscoe and Mabel Edwards.

Shorty is survived by his children:Michelle Gilbert, lives in Forestville, MD, Michael Edwards (wife Leslie) lives in Fontana, CA, Marva Edwards and Monica Lee both live in Frederick, MD.  Shorty had love in his heart to be a part of LaShanda Williams’ life whom she calls dad.  Shorty is also survived by Patricia Watson who was his heart and partner.  He is survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren along with a host of relatives and friends.
