Obituary of Maggie J. Tilghman

Maggie J. Tilghman was born June 28, 1941 to the late John W. James, Sr. and Willie Ann James. Maggie gave her life to the Lord at an early age. Maggie was a member of St. Elmo Baptist Church in Windsor, NC under the leadership of Rev. Williams. She faithfully attended Sunday School and Church. She graduated from W. S. Etheridge High School in 1958, in Windsor, NC. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she married Joseph H. Tilghman, Sr. From that union there were three sons; Joseph, Jr., John L., and James A. Tilghman. The family was later transferred to Wilmington, Delaware by the DuPont Company - the employer of Maggie's husband. Maggie was employed by the University of Delaware. She also worked part time for Gooding Heating Co.

Maggie's hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, reading and doing puzzles. She loved to shop. She loved to watch sports, especially baseball, basketball and football. Maggie also enjoyed watching many game shows on TV.

Maggie went home to be with the Lord November 27, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph H. Tilghman, Sr., her parents John W. James, Sr. and Willie Ann James, a brother Sampson James and a sister Mary J. Walker.

Sorrowfully recognizing her death, but joyfully reflecting her life; three sons Joseph H. (Felicia) Tilghman, Jr. of New Castle, DE, John L. (Sandy) Tilghman of Dover, DE and James A. Tilghman of Wilmington, DE; two sisters Hellen (Greg) Sterns of Wilmington, DE, Annie J. (Rev. Richard Brown, Jr.) of Houston, TX; two brothers, Joseph James and John W. James, Jr. both of Windsor, NC; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; a very close friend, Elizabeth Jones and many other friends. She will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives she touched.
