Obituary of Susie A. Butts

In my father’s house are many mansions.  If it were not so I would have told you, I’m going to prepare a place for you where I am ye shall be there also. – John 14: 2-3

On Saturday, May 5, 2018 she departed this life to be with the Lord!

Susie Anna Butts was born on January 1, 1933 in Salisbury, Maryland.  Her parents are the late James and Maggie Goslee.  She was raised by the late Roberta Covington after the death of her mother.  She attended the public school of Wicomico school the formally Salisbury High.

Susie had various jobs before moving to New York, there she attended The Academy Beauty School and then she was employed by the Chase Manhattan Bank until retiring.  After retiring in she opened a Day Care at her home in Brooklyn, NY (for her love of children) until she became ill.

Susie accepted Christ in her life at a young age.  She was a faithful member of The Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop James Eure, Sr., of Salisbury, Maryland.  When moving to New York she was a member of the Institutional COGIC under the leadership of the late Charles E. Williams, Sr.

Susie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Frank Butts.  They were married on November 27, 1971, for over 30 years.  During this Union weresix children. Previously she had been married to the late Elwood Long.  And three children from this union.

Whenever you did something wrong she would look at you and buck her eyes and put her hands on her hips.  She had a way of putting fear in you.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, listening to Gospel music.  While sitting on her deck humming her favorite song (I won’t complain).  She enjoyed listening to the late Charles E. Jackson and Pastor Jimmy Swaggart.  She was famous for her potato salad; she enjoyed barbecuing, making yeast rolls and her chocolate cake.  She enjoyed wearing the latest fashions.  Heads would turn as she entered into the church.  She like wearing spiked high heels.

Susie enjoyed talking with the Lord she had the gift of laying on Hands and was a True Worshiper. She also had the gift of interpreting of tongues.  She loved traveling (taking cruises).  She had a greeting of saying “Hi Honey” making you feel so special.

Susie's favorite Scripture:  Philippines 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.

Susie leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories with: her children, Samuel Harvell (Betty) of Bennettenville, SC, Felicia Butts of Belleville, NJ, Vernon Butts of Wausau Wisconsin, Faith Goslee of Wilmington DE,Shaunte & Darkell Gerrard of Albany NY, Joan Braboy of Salisbury MD, Marilyn Noel of Tucson, AZ, Kevin Gaines (Evette) of Ellendale, DE; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, two sisters: Lillie Mae Wallace of Mardella Springs, MD and Mary Jackson of Arizona; two sister-in-law’s:  Geneva Butts of Brooklyn, NY and Gloria Kelley of Salisbury, MD.
