Obituary of John Evans, Jr.

Calvin Leroy Gibbs Jr. was born on June 6, 1945 to the late Calvin Leroy Gibbs Sr. and the late Catherine Moore-Epps at Union Hospital, in Elkton Maryland.

He accepted his wings and went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2018 at Seasons Hospice, Newark Delaware.

Calvin affectionately known as Willie received his early education at Levi J. Coppin School in Maryland. He also attended Bohemia Manor High School, in Chesapeake City Maryland.

He worked at Sun shipbuilding in Chester, PA, Aviation in Wilmington and his last job was at St. Patrick Church as Custodian. During his life journey Calvin made many friends. He was a hard-working family man. Calvin was also a member at New Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, of Wilmington Delaware. He was a lot of fun to be around and made you laugh when you were sad. He enjoyed playing Pinochle and watching old western and mystery movies. He was well-liked and well-known and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He would tell you the truth, even when it hurt to listen.

Calvin leaves to cherish his precious memories: One brother, Demetrius Purnell (sister-in-law Vivian), Two sisters Felicia Purnell (brother-in law Alan) and Sandra Latney. Two Aunts: Audrey and Edna. His significant other Myria Johnson (Billie). Four children he raised (Roger, Fondella, Jamie, and Lamont Person).  Four nieces (Francine, Crystal, Patricia and Cherise ), Five nephews (James, Vincent, Jamal, Kevin and Charles) ,18 Grandchildren ,33 Great-grandchildren a host of great-nieces ,nephews ,cousins and devoted friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Calvin Leroy Gibbs the 2nd, and Sister Geraldine Johnson-Wise 

“Be merciful to me, O God. Because of your constant love. Because of your great mercy wipe away all me Sins “ We loved you, but God knows best.
