Mr. Mason was a champion for the children in Wilmington! I remember him umpiring our games in the city softball league. Men like him and William "Hicks" Anderson were difference makers in the community! I am 50 years old and I'll never forget the pillars of our community! It's such a travesty that Wilmington has changed for the worst! Our youth the future killing and disrespecting each other! Mr. Mason taught my generation about respect for one another and community! Thanks Mr. Mason for all that you taught us!

I played for Mr. Mason at Del Tech (74) and knew him from my days with the Parkway family. Fred was a great person whom I always admired. He was a great person, baseball player and manager. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Mason Family for your loss. It was a pleasure to know him. I was the Batboy on the Milford Yanks Negro Baseball Team where Freddy was an outstand player in the mid 1950's. He will be forever missed.
