Obituary of Gladys F. Clark

Gladys Francis Waller Clark was born on November 21, 1920 in Max Meadows, Virginia to William W. Waller, Sr. and Cora Belle Clark.  Her early years were spent in the coal mining hills of West Virginia.  She received her education in the public school system in Gary, West Virginia.


She was married to Albert Clark for thirty-five years until his death in 1975. Together they raised five children. In 1958 she and Albert moved to Newark, New Jersey from Gary, West Virginia.  She resided in Newark, New Jersey until they relocated to Delaware in 1968. 

At age 80 she decided that she wanted a job and through the Wilmington Senior Center employment program she interviewed for a position and was hired.  She was assigned to the Mayor’s Office at the City of Wilmington.  Mrs. Clark,   was adored by the staff and senior leadership.  She worked in the Mayor’s office for about three years.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Cora Waller, her husband Albert Clark, two sons, Charles and Maurice and siblings, Elessie Bell, Helen and William.  She leaves to cherish her memory daughters Constance, Sandra and Jaqueline, a brother-in-law Lawrence Moore, a dear nephew Johnny Hairston and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
