Obituary of James Lee Tatem , Sr.

 

James Lee Tatem of Edgewood, Maryland went home to be with God on Saturday May 27th, 2017, at the age of 64.  At the time of his passing he was a resident of the Forest Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Forest Hill, MD.

The son of the late Alice, and Wilbert Tatem.  He was born to this union on March 15, 1953, in Seaford, Delaware.  James received his former education at Delmar Elementary and Delmar Jr. and Sr. High Schools.  After his graduation in June, 1972, he joined the United States Marine Corp. There he served for 17 years retiring in  1989.  At this time he had achieved the rank of Gunnery Staff Sergeant.  He took great pride in being a marine.

James leaves to cherish his many memories his wife Felina Tatem of Oceanside, CA.  One daughter Felicia Tatem of N C.  3 sons Jesus Leopardas of HI, Michael Leopardas (Jessica) of VA and James Tatem Jr, of Oceanside, CA.  Five grandchildren (Darien Garza).  3 Sisters Deborah Price (William) of Edgewood, MD, Zeborah Harmon of Newark, DE, and Terry Turpin of Salisbury, MD.  4 brothers Nathaniel Tatem(Maggie) of  Palm, FL, Kirk Tatem(Jerri) of Asper, PA, Paul Tatem(Elaine) of Accomack, VA, and Michael Tatem of Fruitland, MD.  He shall be missed by a host of aunts,uncles,nieces, and nephews, cousins and friends.

His last employment was at the Bosie, ID Wal-Mart.  He returned to Maryland in January, of 2016, where he resided with his sister Deborah and brother-in-law William Price.  In June, 2016 James became a faithful member of God’s Own Way Ministries, where he served as the  Elder of the ministry.  Before illness prevented him from going to church his love and passion for God was evident wherever he went.  James redicated his life to God 3 weeks before his passing.  The last song he sang was “Where you there when they crucified my Lord”.

James’ trademark was his Black Western Hat.  He was known far and wide for his wearing of this hat.

His warm and kind spirit shall be missed by all who came in contact with him.  He was a caring and giving person.  Even in his illness he extended a gentleness that few people possess.  Never one to complain he will forever be in our Hearts.
