Obituary of Antoinette C. Logan

Antoinette “Toni” Logan, 75 of Wilmington, Delaware, died May 5, 2017 in Christiana Hospital after a battle with Ovarian Cancer.  Toni affectionately known by her family as “Gramps” was a ball of life and energy.  She was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on October 27, 1941.  She was given up for adoption at a week old and was raised in Catholic Charity foster homes, where she grew to learn and accept the faith.  However, it wasn’t until she was 16 years old when she moved in with Berta Boone that she felt like she was truly home.  Ms. Boone taught Toni how to trust others, know and understand what love is.  As a result, Toni looked at Berta as her mother, while her children and grandchildren came to know Berta as “Nana.”  Toni watched her mother care for others and raise numerous children, which played an intricate role in Toni’s life.  After raising her own children, Toni later raised her grandchildren, nieces and cousins when others were unable too.

Toni is a pupil of the Allentown and Philadelphia School Systems.  She graduated from West Catholic Girl’s High School in 1960.  Upon graduation she became a seamstress, working for Joe Rizzoli and family in Philadelphia, PA.  She worked as a seamstress for over 20 years.  Toni was married to and then later divorced Bruce Logan.  Two children were bore of that union; Anitra Marie and Antonio Wayne.  Toni worked effortlessly to instill resilience and gumption in her children.  Despite the ups and downs of their relationship, Toni loved her children and they no doubt adored and loved their mother.

Toni’s daughter had three children; Melody, Aaron and Billy.  Unfortunately, their mother was unable to care for them.  Toni having learned from her mother that you don’t leave anyone behind, stepped up and decided to raise all three grandchildren.  Toni’s mission was that her grandchildren not be separated and through all things they stick together. While raising her grandchildren, Toni also took on the responsibility of raising two of her nieces and three of her cousins.

Toni was tough, feisty and often times ruled with an iron fist.  However, she never hesitated to ensure that any child under her care was respectful, well-mannered, and loved unconditionally.  Toni received awards from various organizations within the City of Wilmington for her dedication and commitment to children.  She was known as the grandmother of Southbridge.  If you lived in Southbridge or walked down Townsend Street, you more than likely encountered a lively lady doing a crossword puzzle, with a witty sense of humor and pizzazz like no other.

Gramps was predeceased by her son Antonio Logan; her mother, Berta Boone, her best friend, and the love of her life, William “Billy” Dorsey.  She leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter Anitra Logan-Wilson; granddaughter, Melody Phillips; grandson Aaron Logan; grandson Antony “Billy” Logan; great-granddaughter, Aydea Logan; great-granddaughter Alayna Phillips; grandson-in-law, Davontay Phillips; granddaughter-in-law, Sonya Pipher-Logan; two nieces Turquoise and Tamika Woods, best girlfriend Valerie Swanson and a host of sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

In the words of one of her favorite singer’s Frank Sinatra, “Gramps did it her way.”  We love and miss you Gramps~“Ditto”
