Obituary of Leola Ponzo-Jackson

Leola “Bonnie” Ponzo Jackson was given by God on March 11, 1956 in Wilmington, Delaware and was returned to her heavenly father on December 8, 2016 in Douglasville, Georgia. She was the eldest daughter of Shirley C. Robinson and the late Bishop James A. (Rita) Ashley and was affectionately known as "Bonnie”. She was raised by the late Charles “PeeWee” Robinson. She spent most of her life growing up in Wilmington, and hanging out with her favorite cousin Patricia “Wheatie” Hampton. They were like two peas in a pod. Bonnie attended the Public Schools of Wilmington and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School. She was raised and baptized in Friendship Baptist Church. She was the mother of three children Shannon, Jimi and Shaylnn Ponzo. Bonnie married her teenage sweetheart, Walter “Jack” Jackson in 1980, they were inseparable. They moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and joined Ray’s Temple C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of the late Rev. Scott A. White Jr. Bonnie was compassionate and caring and decided to go into a career that would satisfy her desire to help others. She loved taking care of children. She was a Daycare Provider until her health started to fail. Bonnie had a heart of gold and opened up her home for the less fortunate; for men and women in transition. Bonnie was a walking reference book for anyone in need, she could tell them where to go for help. She spent most of her time nurturing her grandchildren. She enjoyed inviting her friends over for a game of Spades and she loved playing Bingo. Bonnie loved to cook and took pride in sharing her prize recipes with family and friend. She was a Faithful Servant of God who fought the fight and kept the faith. In her passing, she leaves a hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Jack” Jackson, her Dad, Charles “PeeWee” Robinson, and Father & stepmother Bishop James & Rita Ashley, 3 brothers Larry and Charles Mickey Robinson Jr., and Lionel Ashley, nephew Charles “Boop” White. Maternal grandparents, Thomas & Margarite Ponzo. She leaves to cherish her memories. Her loving Mother, Shirley C. Robinson, her two wonderful sons, Shannon & Jimi Ponzo, her only daughter Shaylynn Ponzo, Her grandchildren: Shannon Jr., Anthony, Sharleen, DeShanette, Nyshelle, Khajah. Dondre, Daevon, Nyzairah, Deyanna Ponzo, Dominique Jones, Keishon Simmons, Aysia Donkin. Her great grandchildren, Maliyah, Lailani, X’Zayvion, Jayden, Jayceon. Her one and only sister Rev. Cheryl Symphorien. Her oldest brother Tony Ponzo, Craig & Keith Robinson, James Hackett, Overseer James.(Pippin) Ashley Jr. Elder Tyrone(Darlene), Ashley, Elder Donald( Tina) Ashley of Dover DE, Ernest Sutton (Patrice) Darryl & Alvin Woods, Her Godchildren Stacy Gordon, Laquan Horsey,Shalyn Brown, and MacQuel Stewart. Sister-In-laws, Rose Jackson of Wilmington, DE, Diane and Robin Jackson of Miami, FL. Devoted Best Friend, Mary Eshbach, of Lancaster. PA. Host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
