Obituary of John R. Ellis

Mr. Ellis of New Castle, Delaware, passed away peacefully on June 13th, Monday at Cadia Nursing Home. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 19, 1921, Mr. Ellis was the son of the late John Henry and Sarah Ellis. He bravely served his country as a member of the US Army, during WWII in the European theatre. He graduated from Howard High School of Wilmington in 1939. He loved bowling, and playing baseball as a shortstop. Mr. Ellis served as a deacon at the Community Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for 60 years. In addition to both parents, Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Johnson Ellis, his sisters, Inus May, and Alicia Hopkins, and his brother, Ralph Benson, Sr. and his son, Bernard Pearson. He is survived by his children: Patricia Bryant(Wilmington), Joan “Vonnie” Williams (New Castle), Kevin E Ellis (New Castle), and Jackie Brooks (New Castle); Daughter in Law: Brenda Ellis (New Castle), and grandchildren: Tysha Bryant, Charlene Heard, Kevin A Ellis, and great grandson, Nobel Heard.
