Obituary of Roy A. Downs

Roy passed away suddenly at home on May 11, 2016. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica to Roy and Dortris Downs. He migrated to the United States at the age of four. He attended public schools and graduated from Christian High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. After his discharge, he returned to attend college at the University of Delaware. He received a degree in Engineering. He worked for Thermo Fisher Scientific, Philadelphia, for several years. He was a loving son, comforting and supportive. The moment you met Roy, Jr., you knew he was a man of many passions. He loved music, reading, religious studies, travel and politics. Roy was preceded in death by his grandparents: Ivis and Lawford Patterson and Elizak and Persival Downs; two cousins, Michael Beaumant and Mark Downs. He is survived by his parents: Dortris and Roy Downs; his sisters: Dr. Andrea Downs-Patterson, Valerie Patterson, Dortis Am Downs, Dr. Jolethea J. Downs, Sophie Leila Downs, Hycinth Downs-Gordon, Dr. Beverly Green; brothers, Andrew Downs, Damian Patterson, Andrae Williams; aunts: Dr. Avis Joseph, Rita Patterson, Jacqueline Thompson, Aneita Patterson-Warrick, Jennifer Patterson, Enid Patterson, Jennieve Patterson, Conceleta Patterson-Burbick, Joyce Downs-Davis, Adina Downs; uncles Willoughby Downs, Charles Downs, Elton Downs, Philbern Downs, Ernel Frater, Handel Patterson, Edwin Patterson, Hubert Patterson, several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
