Dearest Family, I cannot begin to tell you how shocked I am at Crystal's death. You see, she and I graduated Ursuline Academy HS together in 1981. During our HS tenure we did things together, like go to basketball games, run track, and just bond -- as we were two of three Blacks in our Senior graduating class that year. We continued to hang out after HS graduation, though not as much since we were enduring the rigors of college life. We still managed to keep in touch, but it seemed we both just drifted into our lifes after college. Yes, she ALWAYS wanted to be a doctor, and spoke of it often in High School. She always did well in those applied science classes -- you know the ones, Physics, Chemistry, Biology "yuck." I struggled in those, but Crystal always seemed to grace through those disciplines. I remember her feisty demeanor, outspoken dialog, and of course that smile. Girfriend could also play that piano, OK? I have pictures of us from those days and will always cherish them. I'm still stunned at how such a young women of such zest could be taken from us. I never got to say good-bye, and still wouldn't know if my mother, who is still in Delaware, hadn't shown me the obituary. The lesson is still the same -- love one another, for tomorow is never promised. I'm sure she is leading the Angels in song in a one of a kind piano concerto in God's palace. Please, could someone email me back at yhillaka@yahoo.com, for I really need to talk to someone to put some perspective on my friends death. Thank you all, and peace be with you.
