Obituary of Doris E. Hicks
Doris Elizabeth Warren-Hicks was called to rest on Friday, February 18, 2011 at home with her family by her side. Doris was born on September 12, 1929 in Atlanta, GA to the late Reverend Scott and Annie Warren. She was preceded in death by her son William (Butch) Brunson, siblings Annie Ruth Copeland, Henry (Creamy) and Scott Warren. Doris was educated in the public schools in Atlanta GA and Wilmington, DE. She retired from Chrysler in 1983. She worked for the Delaware State Service Center in Belvedere until her health began to fail her. She received numerous awards of appreciation for her dedicated service at the center. Doris loved working in her flowerbeds when the weather permitted her to do so. She liked cooking, cards and listening to jazz but her first love was sewing. Doris could make just about anything with a pattern or without a pattern. She preferred making her clothes a opposed to buying them in the store. She would always say that her work was better than store bought. Doris was a perfectionist. She wanted things done just right. She would often say; "If you are not going to do it right then do not do it at all". Take your time and do a good job was what she stressed. She leaves to cherish many precious memories: her daughter, Stacia Matthews (Donald); brother, Robert (Bobby) Warren (Beulah); granddaughter, Dawn E. Ramseur; great-grandson, Ariene Gardner; brother-in-law, Iszell Copeland, Sr.; sister-in-law, Glory B. Rolfe and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
