Obituary of Brenda Joyce Brice Harrigan

Brenda Joyce Harrigan departed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE. Sister Brenda was the daughter of Leroy and Mayola Thomas, born January 8, 1943 in Elizabeth, NJ. She received her early education in the public schools of Elizabeth, NJ She relocated to New York to live with her brothers and sisters. At age 17, she became a member of the Nation of Islam under the teachings of Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X at Muhammads' Mosque Temple No. 7 in Manhattan, NY. She attended and graduated from Medgar Evers College in NY. In 1963 while at NOl she met and married Brother Ralph H. Harrigan in Holy Matrimony. In 1978, Sister Brenda and her three sons relocated to New Castle, DE for a better quality of life. She retired from the State of Delaware as a Nurse's Assistant and Dietary Aide in 1999. Up until the time of her passing, Sister Brenda was a resideent at Regency Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, DE. Sister Brenda was a member of NOl Muhammads Mosque No. 35 in Wilmington, DE. She was also a member of M'Backe House in Wilmington, DE. Sister Brenda is loved by many people who was touched by her warm spirit, knowledge, wisdom and understanding of Almighty God (Allah) and her love will be forever cherished. Sister Brenda leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Tariq A. Harrigan, Ishmael A. Harrigan and Omar S. Harrigan; her sisters, Lorraine Thomas and Elieen Peggy Boyce; her brothers, Omar Thomas-Salim and the late James Thomas; grandchildren, Omariah Joyce Harrigan and Isha Harris Harrigan; brothers and sisters in the faith of Nation of Islam and extended family and friends.
