Obituary of Ernest Wilson

Ernest Wilson, Sr., was born on March 10, 1935 in St. Petersburg, Florida to the late Fletcher and Mollie Sallie Wilson. He was one of nine children. Ernest departed this life on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in Wilmington, DE at the age of 74. Ernest received his early education in the Florida Public School System. He worked many years in the construction industry and also as a truck driver. After retiring, he worked for the Wilmington Senior Center. Ernest was a member of the Evangelistic Temple of Truth, under the guidance of Pastor Lawrence Irving. As a viable member of his community, he was a strong supporter of the Alcoholics Anonymous Program. Also having cut his formal education short to assist his mother, Ernest passionately advocated for education, encouraging his loved ones to pursue higher levels of learning. He was known to many as a giving and caring gentleman who enjoyed helping people. Ernest leaves to cherish his memory: his previous wife, Estella Wilson; 2 sons, Jackie (Linda Evans) & David Wilson; 3 daughters Brenda Stones (Tyrone), Patricia B. Lum (the late Clifford, II) & Joyce Harris (Stanley); brothers Henry, Raymond, Eugene, Johnie & the late Arthur & Curtis Wilson; sisters Theresa Lewis & the late Mary Lee Jackson; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Ernest Michael Wilson, Jr. in 2003. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM with viewing 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at The House of Wright Mortuary, 208 E. 35th St., Wilmington, DE.
