Blanche Mason

Obituary of Blanche D Mason

Blanche Dorothy Mason, eldest daughter of the late James Walter and Edna Marie Daniels, was born April 9th 1912 in Wilmington, Delaware. She made her journey home, to be with Our Lord & Savior, Sunday evening, March 15th, 2009 after long illness convalescing at the Regal Heights Rest Home in Hockessin, DE. Young Blanche attended school in a rural area of Delaware known to old-timers as SummitBridge near Middletown, DE., completing the 8th grade, then assisting her mother at home with 9 siblings. A spirited Mrs. Mason, worked as a domestic housekeeper, licensed beautician/owner operator, and within the childcare industry as a day-keeper and child advocate in the Foster Grandparent Program at St. Michael's Day Care Center, West Center City Day Care, and finally with our senior veterans in the Retired Senior Veterans Program through the Salvation Army. Blanche was joined in Holy matrimony with the late James Anthony Sparks for 20 years. The loving couples union was blessed evermore, being charged with the welcomed responsibility of rearing her sister's child, and namesake, Dorothy. Mrs. Mason divorced and wedded a second time to the late Elder Willie Mason of Wilmington, DE for 5 years until his passing. In the 50's, upon becoming acquainted with the House of Prayer for All People of Wilmington, Sis. Mason has spent over 60 years dedicated to her church and serving the interest of others. She has enjoyed serving on a number of House of Prayer boards; with the warmest regards to the Queen and Usher Boards, and having the high honor to serve as a delegate from Delaware to meet the founder of the House of Prayer in Washington DC- Charles Grace known to members affectionately as "Sweet Daddy Grace". She counts among her favorite joys, rearing daughter Dorothy, visiting with her grandchildren and siblings, her many travels to House of Prayers around the country, playing bingo with friends at the Salvation Army, volunteering, and preparing her specialty chicken & dumplings for those she loved. Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her parents: James and Edna Daniels, first husband: James Anthony Sparks, second husband: Elder Willie Mason, (1) brother: Joseph "Bucky" Daniels, (5) sisters: Evelyn Daniels, Pauline Daniels, Marie Daniels, Florence Wimberly, Naomi Jones. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: (2) brothers: Leon and Robert Daniels, daughter: Dorthy Scott, grand children: Connie, Pete, and Devon Scott, Artie Chalk, all of Wilmington, DE, (9) great-grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church-members, friends, and the Wilmington community in which she has willingly given a life of dutiful service.
