I only knew Freddie for 10 months from work. I first noticed his style of dress, very meticulous and neat. Funny, but I would usually run into him in the men's room, exchange hello's and ask him how it was going. He was usually low keyed, rather mellow, always positive, and nothing ever seemed to bother him. He was a true gentlemen and he will be missed by everyone at work.

One hot summer day in 1974, Robert Freeman and I spied a young man, in the mess hall of Seymour Johnson AFB, bowing his head to say grace over his lunch. We asked if we could join him, introduced ourselves, and like the evangelist of old, asked him if he knew what he was doing and to whom he was praying. It would be the last time that Freddie Barksdale, Jr. would waveringly answer that question. Brother Freddie came to faith on that day, and we began a friendship that has lasted for thirty-five good years! Freddie was a brother who was blessed with the ability to think deeply about things. He often expressed his feelings through poetry and songs. We shared many hours, over the years, discussing the two subjects that most people avoid ĂƒÂ¢Ă‚Â€Ă‚Â¦ religion and politics. His creativity, wit, humor, and stimulating conversations will be sorely missed. To Sonja, the children, and the rest of the family ĂƒÂ¢Ă‚Â€Ă‚Â¦ May the God of all comfort, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, comfort your hearts at this time of sorrow and flood your souls with his peace.

To the Barksdale Family,
I had the pleasure of working with Fred at Terumo when I was a temp there. Although brief, Fred had a tremendous impact on me. I am very sad to hear of your loss. When Dave Hall contacted me I was in shock because it was just in late November that I had talked to him. He always talked of his Grandson. I know it's hard right now but just remember God only calls a few of us home to be with him, in Freds time here, he has touched so many. God Bless your family. He will always be with you.
