Obituary of Kathleen S. Reed

Kathleen S. Reed, lovingly known as "Kassie, Elsie, Miss Chris, and Sadie," was the oldest daughter of Gertrude Gee Lane and the late John Franklin Lane. She was born May 2, 1935 in Newark Delaware and departed this life on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Seasons Hospice in the Christiana Care Hospital in Newark, DE. Kathleen grew up in Newark where she enjoyed attending St. John A.U.M.P. (A.M.) Church, Hillside and New London Roads, where she loved singing on the choir. She attended the New London Avenue Elementary school in Newark, Howard High School in Wilmington and received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Delaware State University in Dover, DE. She was employed as a teacher with the Wilmington Public Schools, the Portsmouth, Virginia Schools and the Christina School District in Wilmington. Kathleen was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert L. Reed on December 27, 1957, and from this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Reed, father, John Lane and brother, Stewart M. Lane. Kathleen leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Robert D. Reed, three daughters; Angela Reed, Shirley P. Reed-McKinney (David), and Karla E. Reed. Her mother Gertrude Gee Lane, nine brothers; Steven (Madeline), Dr. James Donald, Clyde, Timothy, Franklin, Gerald, Sheridan, Page, and Gregory (Angela), three sisters; Iris Marie Davis (Donald), Wanda Lane, and Octavia Swanson (Marvin), four grandchildren; Shante Lesoken (Joshua), Alexander McKinney, Kyndall McKinney, and Emerald Reed, two great-grandchildren; Ny'Ceir Lesoken and Carter Lesoken, sister-in-law, Margaret (Margie) Patrick, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
