John Lusby

Obituary of John Wesley Lusby

affectionately called Johnny by family members only, he was respectfully called John in his professional environment, and called “Lus” in the presence of friends and associates. A native of the First State of Delaware, he was born on January 5, 1953 to the late John Wesley Young and the late Mabel Mae Lusby. While asleep at his home on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 John was called home to rest. John attended various elementary and high schools throughout the state of Delaware. He graduated from the James H. Groves Adult Night School and received his diploma in June 1977. In his childhood years he received the up bringing of the church environment from both of his parents and knew the word of prayer unto God. After the loss of his mother at the tender age of 12 years old, Johnny was blessed to reside with his father and loving stepmother, Alice Young. Mom Alice(TM)s gift of love spread throughout all the children of Mabel Lusby. He was also encouraged by his favorite motherly aunt, the late Beatrice Lusby-Collins. Aunt Bee enjoyed cooking Johnny(TM)s loved foods and one of his favorite was muskrat smothered in gravy. Johnny was a devoted father to his three children, Quwinly W. Redding, the oldest; next Cedrick L. and Tyrah R. Lusby. He also spent good quality time with his brother and sisters, and other family members. John enrolled in the 702 Program and landed a job at Sears Warehouse at the age of seventeen. He continued to move up the ladder in the Receiving Department. He received and distributed merchandise throughout the Sears Exchange. He endured his life(TM)s long career for thirty-four years until he became ill. John also worked various part-time jobs while working at Sears. He delivered the morning newspaper and wanted the family to help. Some family members grabbed hold of the idea and others didn(TM)t want to get up that early to go to work. Lus had the gift for talking and in every conversation he made it an opportunity for a great debate. John was a great coin collector. He has been collecting, buying and selling old and new collectors coins for many years. Lus loved to play chess and cards. He was predeceased in death by his oldest sister, Joyce Lusby-Cunninghan. He is survived by two sons, Quwinly W. and daughter-in-law, Eva Redding of Smyrna, Delaware, Cedrick L. Lusby of Wilmington, Delaware; one daughter, Tyrah R. Lusby of Wilmington, Delaware; one grandson, Kawn L. and one granddaughter, Tahirah M. Redding both of Smyrna, Delaware; stepmother, Alice Young; one brother, Nathan J. Lusby of Woonsocket, Rhode Island; three sisters, Theresa Lusby-Holden, Charlene (Shy) Lusby-Walton and Rowena B. (ROW) and brother-in-law, Ira Spencer all of Wilmington, Delaware; two devoted nieces; Valerie TX. Williamson and Loise C.
