Obituary of Irene Morris

Mother Irene Morris, daughter of the late Ellen and Robert Jackson was born December 8, 1924 in New Orleans, LA. She departed this life Wednesday, May 23, 2012 after a long illness. Irene received her early education in the New Orleans Public Schools. She was married to Mitchell Morris for 44 years until his death in 1991. From this union Yvonne Marie (Cookie) was born. They had a special bond only a mother and daughter could share. Irene was employed as a care provider for children and the disabled, hair stylist for homebound elderly and cook. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker and mother. She loved entertaining in the summer and holidays where she would fix her famous potato salad, fried chicken, seafood gumbo and cakes. Baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit at 12 years, she first joined Star of Bethlehem AUMP Church in 1947. After moving to Delaware she later joined Rock of Ages Baptist and Elizabeth AME Churches but returned to Star of Bethlehem in the 1970's. She was truly a servant of God who worked wherever needed; Usher, Trustee, Missionary and Pastor's Aid. All you had to do was ask. She loved all her pastors and spoiling them gave her great joy. She was God fearing and would speak of the goodness of the Lord to all she came in contact. She wasn't afraid to talk to anyone, but she was especially drawn to children and young people and they to her. She spread a lot of love around. In her last days she let you know she loved and trusted God. Her assignment is finished, so now she can rest. She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Irene leaves to cherish her memory; loving daughter, Yvonne Marie of Baltimore, MD; one sister, Dorothy (Maxfull) Landry of Abbeville, LA; devoted friend, Kizzie Shaw and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
