Obituary of David Charles Wilkins

David Charles Wilkins, son of George and Daphne Wilkins was born on March 2, 1963 in Jamaica West Indies. He departed this life on Monday, January 16, 2006. He received part of his early education in Jamaica, before migrating to the United States at the age of eleven. While here, he attended Warner Middle School and graduated from DelCastle High School in June of 1982. David was found to be thoughtful, caring, devoted, considerate and giving. You were always greeted by David with one of his big smiles which followed him inquiring about your wellbeing. He was the consummate family man, friend and humanitarian. He searched out ways to assist and help others. It was not unusual for him to devote and dedicate countless hours helping others. He always tried to find an opportunity to make someone�(TM)s day special by speaking encouraging words, his expression of a valiant and indomitable spirit or simply by his kind acts of giving. Family and friends truly enjoyed spending time with him. Once a friend of David�(TM)s, you remained a friend for a lifetime. David was also a standard bearer. He loved things that were honest and pure. He eagerly tried to pass on these principles to his nephews and nieces. He also tried to teach them the importance of learning how to persevere in situations which were less than favorable. He spent many hours entertaining them while bedridden by indulging with them in their favorite movies and television sports. David had a passion for horticulture, music and old movies. In the last few years of his life, he was unable to practice horticulture because of his debilitating illness. As a result, he spent a lot of time listening to music and watching old movies. This allowed him to reminisce and reflect. He would astound family and friends with the details of things that had happened in our lives that most would have forgotten. We all took pleasure in spending time with him and remembering and laughing about these events. He leaves to cherish his memories; his parents, George and Daphne Wilkins; siblings, Errol Wilkins, Yvonne Kuckoo, Raymond Wilkins, Lorna Hill, Gladstone Wilkins, Roy Wilkins, John Wesley Wilkins, Wendy Walker and Richard Francis and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and other family and friends.
